When I thought of foreign faculty, the readily present image in my mind was that of a foreign language professor. I didn't think too much about the reasons why a teacher would want to teach other subjects abroad. ("States hire foreign teachers to ease shortages" -Bay Minette) It never really occurred to me that the teachers might be getting recruited, and that there are personal fact0rs involved.(Global Commodities or Culturally Relevant Educators?: The Recruitment of Foreign Teachers for U.S. Urban Schools Dunn, Alyssa Hadley (2011) )

As I type, I'm unsure as to why I thought teachers were exempt of personal reasons for wanting to work somewhere. The aim for most college attendees is success, some have modeled their futures into the art of teaching, and decided to go wherever they are most likely to succeed, and are going to work hard for it.( More Foreign-Born Scholars Lead U.S Universities -Lisa Foderado) They face several obstacles and some get abused by their employers who play the system of their host country.(Pr. George’s schools’ decision on visas leaves Filipino teachers uncertain about their futures -Ovetta Wiggins) Some give away or sell their belongings in their home country, move out with their family, in hopes of acquiring a better future and life.(Foreign teachers' American dreams vanish in a flash -Miranda Leitsinger ). I'm not sure of the audience, but I thought I would try to capture the essential humanness of professors. We seem to put them on a pedestal, one that doesn't leave room for error and we tend to forget that they are people too, with ambitions, desires, families and other priorities that do not involve teaching. They too, are "In search of light."
